Are Progress Update Meetings Worth It? Here’s My Perspective

If you've ever worked in a software company, you've likely had to sit through a progress update meeting. The purpose of these meetings is to keep everyone aligned, ensure projects stay on track, and address any issues that arise. But are they truly the best way to achieve these goals?

My Perspective

Personally, I don’t think so. I believe there are much more efficient and effective ways to track progress and address issues.

For any problems that arise, immediate messaging is often sufficient; there’s no need to wait for a progress update meeting to bring them up. When it comes to tracking progress, there are numerous online tools that are far more efficient, effective, and productive. Tools like Notion, DevOps, and other project management platforms provide real-time updates, detailed task tracking, and collaborative features that keep everyone informed without the need for lengthy meetings.

Benefit of Using the Tools

These tools allow everyone to see exactly what needs to be done, who’s responsible, what the estimated completion date is, and the current status—all without interrupting the workflow or requiring time to prepare meeting agendas.

By using these tools, teams can focus more on actually getting things done. Additionally, these platforms offer the flexibility to update and adjust plans as needed, without having to wait for the next scheduled meeting.

Conclusion
